Acting On The Action of Believing

Acting On The Action of Believing

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Believe is a verb, and a verb by definition is a word used to describe an action, state or occurrence that forms the main part of a sentence. Besides believing in God my Father and Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, I believe that the most important act of Christianity or anything for that matter is the action of the word itself – Believing. We tend to believe what we see with our eyes is real. But how much greater is it to follow the word of God and believe in that which we do not see, according to the bible of course. There are some foolish things we could believe in but that’s not what I’m talking about here.

Reading the scriptures above this morning caused me to think about just how powerful the action of believing is. God tells us that if we just believe according to his will, HE will do and we shall have. How awesome is that! Not only are we in action but it causes God to be active on our behalf.

So how do we put believing into action. We first have to have confidence and then trust in the word that God has given us. Both of these must begin in the mind and then take root in our heart. When I began to dig deeper I found this passage by Dr. Victor Paul Wierwille who wrote in his book The Bible Tells Me So:

“There is power in believing. There is power in this world to which you and I as born-again believers have easy access. This power will enable us to overcome our shortcomings and our difficulties, bringing release and victory to our lives. This power is from God. He is everywhere present, which means that He is with you right now. The key involved is knowing and receiving His power, which is the basis on which the whole abundant life hinges. The law of believing brings phenomenal results to all those who apply and practice the principles. . .

The word “believe” is a verb which connotes action. Therefore, believing the Word of God, taking the Word of God literally and acting upon it, brings results. This is the law of believing and this is the action that will bring release and victory to your life in every situation. “If thou canst believe, all things are possible [presently available] to him that believeth.” Mark 9:23b”

God has given us power, and believing that we have this power and can walk in it allows God to exhibit His power in and through us. There are so many scripture that speak to us about believing and what God will do if we just believe. Matthew 21:22, John 3:16, John 6:35, Mark 5:36, Psalms 23:4-5, Hebrews 11:6, Romans 10:10, Romans 15:13, Mark 11:24, James 1:5-6, Mark 9:24, just to name some.

What are you doing about the action of believing?
