Serving The Master

Serving The Master

split heartMatthew 6:24

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Lesson:

Definitions of mammon: material wealth or wealth as evil, golden calf, materialistic goal

Synonyms: avarice, gain, possessions, riches, wealth, almighty dollar, effigy, graven image, idol, mammon

This is simply put. You will either serve the Lord or you will serve the pleasures of the earth. You cannot serve both of them. If you are pleasing your flesh and doing the thing that the world does you are a slave to those things and not in the will of the Father.

Serving mammon means that you worship material things, you have become a slave to it. You live for yourself and what you have, it is being selfish. And with everything you gain it is never enough you always want more. More money, more success, more power and this leads to doing whatever it take to get what you want. That is where sin is in it because you give way to the wickedness in your heart, You do evil deeds, you hurt people in the process you allow the enemy to come in and take over and control you. People do not want to believe  that they are serving Satan but the truth of the matter is if you are not serving God that is what you’re doing. And in choosing to serve mammon, in the end is destruction and death, you will not be able to take those material things with you.

Now the reason God says that you cannot serve both is because when you serve God you do so that He may be glorified and that you will share a life eternal with Him, but when you serve mammon your glorifying idols.

This is not to say that you have to be poor in serving Christ. God will bless you with everything you need on this Earth. He gives you the power to get wealth that you will use to bless His people. Serving God means that you will be live according to His will, you worship Him and you be obedient to His word. You will take no thought as to what you will eat, wear or live. You will fully trust and depend on Him. Your life will line up with His word and you shall have peace that only He can give. And in the end, you will live eternally in Heaven with God and the treasures you have stored up from serving Him on Earth.

So I ask what will you choose God or mammon? Life or death? Peace or torment?
