The Importance of Humility: Avoiding the Pitfalls of Pride

In this post, we’ll discuss how pride can be a destroyer of destinies, especially for those who have achieved something great. We’ll also look at how seeking glory for oneself can bring shame instead of honor, and how humility is the key to preserving one’s destiny.

Introduction:

In today’s world, pride is often seen as a virtue to be celebrated, rather than a vice to be avoided. However, the Bible teaches that pride is one of the greatest destroyers of men. As Proverbs 29:23 says, “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” In this blog post, we will explore the danger of pride and the importance of humility, particularly in the context of preserving our destiny.

1. The Danger of Pride: Bringing Great Men Low

Pride is particularly dangerous for those who have achieved something great. The devil knows that if he wants to bring a great man down, he does not have to send witches and wizards to that man; all he has to do is bring out the pride in the man. Proverbs 25:27 says, “It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.” Seeking glory for oneself will not bring glory but shame.

The devil himself is an example of this danger. He was once a very special arch-angel in heaven, but pride got into his head because of how beautiful he was. He started seeking glory for himself, even the glory of God’s own throne. He ended up being brought so low that, at the end of time, he will be locked up in the pit of fire to suffer forever.

2. Seeking Glory for Oneself: The Path to Shame

It’s easy to fall into the trap of seeking glory for ourselves. We live in a world that values individual achievement and self-promotion. However, seeking glory for oneself is a surefire way to end up in shame. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, is a prime example of this. He was warned in Daniel 4:24-27 about the danger of pride, but he didn’t heed the counsel. Pride rose up in him, and he started to boast about the things that God had done through him, calling them his achievements. He was brought so low that he was eating grass with the animals in the bush.

3. The Importance of Humility: Preserving Your Destiny

So what is the prescription for avoiding the danger of pride and preserving our destiny? The answer is humility. Romans 12:10 says, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another”. The day we forget that everything we have is given to us by God is the day we begin to decline.

James 4:6 says those who want the grace of God to work in their lives must be humble. Humility is not about putting yourself down or denying your accomplishments. Rather, it’s about recognizing that everything we have and everything we are is ultimately a gift from God. When we approach life with a spirit of humility, we open ourselves up to the grace of God and the possibility of fulfilling our destiny.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, pride is a danger that we must all guard against. It’s easy to fall into the trap of seeking glory for ourselves, but this path ultimately leads to shame and downfall. The importance of humility cannot be overstated. When we approach life with a spirit of humility, we preserve our destiny and open ourselves up to the grace of God. Let us seek to be humble in all things, and let us remember that everything we have is ultimately a gift from above.
