The First and Great Commandment

The First and Great Commandment

Matthew 22:36-38 (KJV)

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

The great commandment IS the greatest and best commandment given to live a full life in Christ. If we can follow this commandment it would make most all of our lives fall in line with the will of God. Why? Because if we love Him above all things we would obey Him in all things. We would be intimate with Him even more than we are with others in our various relationships.

Love – is an intense feeling, and expression or deep affection as defined by some dictionaries. But above all of those, deep in our hearts we know that love is an action. Love is what we do and when we love God with all of our heart, mind, and soul it becomes who we are.

There is no greater teacher or example of what love is than God who gave is Son for us. And then shows us grace and mercy everyday, even when we won’t acknowledge Him, we turn our backs on Him or we fail Him. He still loves us and calls us to Him to be joint heirs of an inheritance of which the likes we have never seen. And all we have to do to receive the abundance of life an riches in glory is to believe in Him who gave His life to save us. To believe in the absence of evidence that HE IS. To trust and be absolutely confident in who He is.

Hebrews 11:1-3 (Children’s Bible) – Now faith is the confidence that we shall receive the things for which we hope, the proof of the reality of things we do not see. It was because of their faith that the men of old were approved by God. Through faith we know that the universe was made perfect by God’s command and that what is seen was made out of what is not seen.

There is security and hope in Christ. There is protection and promises fulfilled in Christ. There is compassion and love in Christ. We may not see it all of the time, but we believe it. I will leave you with this:

1 Corinthians 13:13 (KJV)

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
