Parting The Storm

Parting The Storm

Isaiah 4:6 (KJV)

And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the day time from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

Isaiah 25:4 (AMP)

4 For You have been a stronghold for the helpless, A stronghold for the poor in his distress, A shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat; For the breath of tyrants Is like a rainstorm against a wall.

I took a trip this weekend to visit my dad because my grandmother and two aunts had come up from the south to visit with him for a week. I came the weekend before and my husband met my grandma and aunts for the first time. We had a blast and decided that we would return this past weekend because they would still be there. I don’t get to see my grandma very often and I wanted to have the chance while it was available to me.

The trip down was great. the weather was nice and warm, the sun was shining, but there was rain in the forecast for the rest of the weekend. When it comes to driving in the rain, I’m a bit less confident with driving in it. I mean I don’t trust the car, other drivers, the road or the tires. I can do it but there is always this small grip of fear that an accident can occur at anytime. The road may be slick, the tires can loose traction, on my car or another car on the road. So I tend to drive a bit more carefully.

But when it comes to long distance traveling in the rain I fully dread it. But I have to get home right. So I put on my big girl pants and I brave my way onto the road. Never letting my passengers know I’m scared of driving in the rain on the highways. Then as I’m driving, the way through was clear. It was so cloudy but the storms were on my left and my right, but the road I was traveling was clear. It felt as if I was driving through the eye of the storm.  No matter how the road curved back and forth where I traveled it was clear, sometimes the ground was wet as the rain had passed that particular spot.

About thirty minutes into my drive God began to deal with me. He said that this day was already prepared for me before time began. He knew that He would direct the weather and give me safe passage before I was created. He then told me that this is how He covers me during the storms of life. I’m surrounded by storms and rain because of who I am in Christ Jesus, but He and He alone covers me so that those rain and storms will not harm me. I may get hit with some rain from time to time, but he sustains me and makes a way through the middle of the storming rain to give me a safe passage.

In the midst of this there was peace. The rest of our journey was a peaceful passage. With that I could see the beauty even in the dark grey clouds. Light shined through some areas. There was a mix between white and gray clouds in others. Some were high and some dark clouds hung so low it felt like I could reach up and touch them. Only God could create such beauty as that.

Thank you Lord that you have created a safe passage for us in a dark world full of storms and rain, that we have no reason to fear. Thank you that You are a hedge of protection that covers us and You travel above us and You cover us on every side. Thank you for being God. Thank you for being a God of everlasting love protection. Thank You for as long as I keep my eyes on You and travel the road that You have placed ahead of me, I have no need to look to the left or to the right, but to be confident in this one thing. To take courage and press ahead towards the mark for the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus and to seek You and Your kingdom first above all.
