Once In A Lifetime

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

I awake this morning with a song down in my spirit. I love those days where I can hear it loud and clear and as soon as I have a moment I play it because I most certainly can’t remember all of the words off hand. I play it as I get ready for the day ahead. It’s Smokie Norful’s Once in a Lifetime. He talks about the expectations he had for his life and all of the things we encounter once that are special in our life. But He sings about that one thing you find in life that is greater than anything else we could ever find in this life. It gives you more joy than any friendship, or love, or success.

We live a life searching for the keys to success, our soulmate, fame, love, money, friendships, etc. All of this without God. But the truth is that there is only one place we can obtain all of that and it is in Jesus Christ. He sings about the more he gained success in the world the more distant he became from the Lord. The enemy illuminates the things our flesh desires and our hearts seek after. As we do we lose sight of the one who gives us purpose. The word says to “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

I’ll admit I have some great expectations for my life and sometimes I don’t believe my dreams are big enough. But what I have come to realize is that no matter what those dreams, desires, and expectations are, nothing I do will give me joy in them more than Jesus will. See when God stepped in and changed my life, he changed the way I thought. I grew up with a poor mentality. I could never have more than I did, or do anything other than what I was doing. Which at the time was much of nothing. I was struggling financially, jobs (just over broke) were really jubs (just under broke) for me. There was no career, no joy, no peace, and no hope.

But when you cross paths with Christ He provides all those things and more. He restores, He redeems, He is the giver of hope to the hopeless, peace to the unpeaceful, joy to the unjoyful and life to the lifeless. All it takes is to have faith and trust in Him.

Prayer: Dear Lord, today may you shed your light so bright that I may see it from a distance and look to You. Help me to abandon my will in exchange for all of You. Help me to take no thought for tomorrow for You have already taken care of those things, but to put my focus on praising You today and seeking you in every instance, every circumstance and every situation. In Jesus name. Amen

Psalm 37:4
Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
