Glory In Infirmity

Glory In Infirmity

How many of us can say as Christians that we glory in our infirmities? When I think on this scripture what I gather in my own heart is that is that we cannot fathom what Christ did for us. In sickness I often more times than not have taken my eyes briefly off of what God is doing in those moments and I focus on what I see with the physical. Sort of like Peter when he bid Jesus to allow him to come to Him walking on the water and when the storm blow just a bit harder, Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and in an instant began to drown.

Matthew 14:28-31
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

But for me in the case of sickness I see the weakness, sadness, fear and the doubt that so willingly crouches at the door waiting on the chance to take over. If we are not careful to listen to God we too find ourselves in fear, drowning in the circumstances and looking for a way to fix things ourselves. But this scripture reminds us that we do not have what we need in and of ourselves to do so. He said that His grace is sufficient meaning it is more than enough for us. And when we are weak, be it physically, emotionally or spiritually, then His strength is strong enough to care us through.

So then if these loving gifts are so welcomingly made available to us at these low points in our lives, I most certainly understand why Paul would say that he would rather glory in them. They are an chance to have Jesus Christ’s power take over and rest on us. And as His power rests on us we are being built up, strengthened, encouraged, gaining endurance and  resting in victory, knowing that God works all things out for our good.

Romans 8:28 (KJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Prayer: Oh precious Lord and Savior, thank you that You love me with with an everlasting love. Thank You that You have brought me this far in my journey and have blessed me with all that I have. Thank you for Your grace that covers me in my time of need and even when I don’t realize I need it. Thank You that when I am feeling weak and my circumstances weigh heavy on my shoulders, Lord it is Your strength that carries me through. Help me to remember that it is You and only You that I can truly rely and depend on and when all these infirmities attempt to encompass me that it is Your power, the power of Christ that rests upon me. And for that allow me to be ever so grateful. In Jesus name. Amen
