Created In His Image

Created In His Image

In the very beginning, God creates all things. Genesis 1:1-2:3

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like ourselves. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
(Genesis 1:26-27)

God created us human beings different from the way he created other animals. He created us in his image, both male and female, and he gave us authority over all other living creatures on this earth. This gives us considerable value and invokes an important question to be answered: In what ways are we made in the image of God?

God discernibly did not create us exactly like himself, because He has no physical body that can be touched. Instead, we are a reflection God’s glory. Ingrained within us being our speech, reason, self-determination, and creativity is what some believe is the image of God. More likely so it is our entire self that reflects the image of God. We can never totally be like God because he is our supreme creator. But what we do have is the ability to reflect his character in our love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, and forgiveness.

Being sure that we are made in the image of God and planted on the inside of us are his characteristics provides a solid basis for increased self-esteem and respect for one’s self. Self-worth is not based on physical attractiveness, possessions, public acclaim, or achievements. It is however based on being made in the image of God. Because we reflect God’s image, we can feel confident in who we are. To Criticize ourselves is to discount how God has made us and the abilities he has given us.

Knowing that you are a person of great value helps you love God, know him on a person level, and give meaning to the lives of those around you.

Thank God for his creating you in his image. You are an extremely unique creation and he loves you. Thank him for all of the special gifts, talents, abilities, physical characteristics, emotional makeup, and personality that make you who you are.
